NAPS: A Neurophysiological Assessment of PTSD and Sleep

What is the study about?

This study examined the effects of sleep on cognitive and physiological processes in individuals with and without posttraumatic stress disorder. The goal of this study was to better understand the role of sleep in the development and maintenance of posttraumatic stress disorder. Participants completed an eligibility visit and 3 visits at the San Francisco VA Medical Center as well as at-home sleep monitoring activities.

What is the study about?

This study tested the usability of a sleep diary mobile app and examined the sleep biology underlying nightmares and distressing dreams using a multi-modal approach. Participants and their available bed partners initially filled out a sleep diary mobile app and wear a motion-sensing wristband device for 3 weeks. Eligible participants then moved onto part 2 of the study and wore an at-home EEG monitor while continuing to wear their wristband device and fill out the sleep diary mobile app.
